Wildcard Leader presents: STUMP.

The name comes from a drinking game we used to play in the garage, involving hammers, nails and a tree stump. Pictured on the record cover is the very stump we pounded all those boxes of nails into. May this album be a tribute to that massive hunk of wood and all the joy it brought.

We made this thing at home a little over two years ago, shortly before the band slowed down a bit and went on to other things. The goal was to document some of the songs we were playing at the time (there are leftovers that'll maybe come out one day) and put something of a little stamp on this period of our music making.

Over the last couple years it became something we picked away at when Jim and I we were in the same room the handful of weeks a year that happens, adding bits here and there (or pulling out stuff we thought sounded cool months prior but really didn't). Some days were more productive than others, but eventually this was where we were at when we damn near lost the audio files altogether. Instead of letting the project die, we're putting it out now.

We didn't have an audio "professional" in the room for any of this. Jim was the engineer, producer, and mixer all while trying to come up with new parts and handling everything on keys. Bill and Brian did their absolute best to nail down the rhythm section on a bunch of songs we'd only occasionally rehearsed with them, the bulk of which was recorded in a few hours. We threw Adam in to play a slide guitar just to see what he could come up with (it worked!). The whole thing was recorded on an old computer with minimal equipment. I did my best to "master" this, by which I only mean "make it louder". PBRs and High Lifes a-plenty were consumed by all throughout the process. So, if this collection of songs sounds like it was recorded under these circumstances, well, it's because it totally was.

I'm really proud of the result though. Getting to make music with friends is a privilege, and everyone who helped make this thing was fantastic. Hopefully you can glean something from the songs here. If hearing this makes even one person bob their head or tap their feet or feel anything at all, we've done what we set out to do.
